The day I cheated on beauty

In honor of the General Relief Society Meeting taking place this weekend…I am sharing this message of beauty. My very first vlog! Ahh! I am very much an amateur at videos. However, after this life changing experience at the mall, I had to share it. Any of you that have attended my speaking engagements know exactly what I teach about beauty, self love and being true to who we are.  Those things that I teach, that is truly what I believe and it is how I live my life.

Until today, I never realized how much I could offend my soul by stepping away from who I am, even just a little bit. Watch the video, and hear all about my “makeover”.

After you watch the video, please take the time to look at the pictures I posted below. These were taken at Camp Cumorah last summer. I had just spoken to around 400 girls and the spirit was so strong! We all laughed and we cried together, and truly grew so much from loving one another. I fell in love with them, and in an instant they became my best friends. This is one of several speaking engagements full of miracles, healing and loving one another. Each one being so sacred and dear to me heart.

My friends! These are the moments in my life that I have never felt more BEAUTIFUL! My makeup is all cried off. My heart is wide open. My hands are doing God’s work as I serve my brothers and sisters. I see beauty everywhere, all of the time. It’s never see it attached to a certain size, a certain shape or shade. It just IS.
God given beauty radiates the most when we are caught right in the act of doing good!! Look at these pictures and see for yourself! Look at the world’s version of beauty in the video, and then God’s version of beauty in the pictures. It’s undeniable.

Look at these young women completely invested in the cause of Christ! Are they not STUNNING? Even at camp, where no one wears a titch of makeup, they just glowed. They radiated light and love. Beauty is real, and it is found everywhere and in every single person. We just have to stop wasting time on what the world tries to push us to believe. Sisters, we have got to be the kind of beautiful that transcends all human emotion and leaves us longing for more. That is what the spirit of God does. It’s why we are drawn to it, and it’s why we yearn for it. We need that warmth and light. We crave that beauty…and there are no substitutions for the real thing.

To all of you, I issue a challenge. Take a pic of yourselves doing something beautiful! Examples include doing service for someone, showing someone love or compassion, a picture of you holding a picture of Jesus Christ, maybe a picture of you watching the General Women’s Meeting tonight with your loved ones or by yourself! I don’t care if you are in your jammies or in your church clothes. I just want a picture that represents when you feel the most beautiful! Post them to your social media account and use the hashtag #lovedawnbeautychallenge. You can also send me your picture via private message to anyone of my social media accounts or to the contact information provided at the top of the page.

Anyone who sends me a picture will be featured in an upcoming video starring…..YOU! Please share this challenge with your friends and family…I want a TON of pictures! This video is going to be so awesome!

Sweet friends, may we always keep working towards the goal of being the kind of beautiful that God longs us to be. I love you all so very much! Stay beautiful!

Love,
Dawn

  1. You are the most beautiful when you show up in sweats with no make-up and only your smile. You are, in fact, the most beautiful person (inside and out) that I know. Love you friend.

    1. Barb! Oh my gosh…that is the nicest thing someone has ever said to me. Seriously…thank you friend. You are the sweetest, and I love you so much. We are messy bun, stretchy pants soul sisters! Woot woot! #mytribe #iloveus

  2. Dawn, I clicked on your video to watch it and my phone jacked up so I couldn’t see you, just a black space. But I did have sound. I heard every beautiful word you said. Just hearing your message about what beauty really is, put a picture in my mind of just how beautiful you really are. I don’t need to see you to know you’re beautiful. I see you on the inside and I love your beautiful guts!

    1. Melody…what a gift its been to have you and your sweet family in our lives. We love you guys…your story is incredible and I look up to all of you! Can’t wait to make more memories together!

  3. Loved this! I saw the link on our mission page… I haven’t met you, but you are connected to many of my mission friends! (My husband remembers you, he served in Omaha)

Anyway, love this msg! This is what I preach to my daughters! In fact my oldest (17)and I were just having this conversation last night!

Thanks for sharing this important truth, I know it’s so easy for girls especially, to get wrapped up in the focus of taking care of the outer stuff, and forgetting about what really matters!

    1. Awesome!!! Tell your hubby I said hello! Your hubby is Elder Chamberlain right? I remember him! I am so glad you loved the message. I don’t think out girls can have enough reminders of this!

      1. ? yes, that’s him! He remembers you too!

So would you ever want to come to Washington and speak to the youth here?
We’d love to have you, and I just know I’d love your message!!

        1. Sure I would love to come! Send me your contact info and lets get something on the calendar. I LOVE the youth so much! It would be fun to see “Elder Chamberlain” again! <3
